Description: Pentaerythrityl
tetraisostearate is an elegant emollientm ester, which is a polar, branched
chain tretraester with low interfacial tension and high molecular weight,
designed to impart long-lasting emolliency and low
comodogenicity in colour cosmetics. It
is a wonderful alternative too castor oil and provides highly occlusive
skin protection
with an appealing high-gloss finish. It
is insoluble in water, ethanol and hydroalcoholic systems. Pentaerythrityl tetraisostearate has a high molecular weight
with a relatively high viscosity, compared to other esters. Therefore it has one of the lowest Emollient
Skin Spreading Factors available (ESSF = 2.9), as seen in figure 3, and spreads
slowly on the skin. This means that it
is not only a highly lubricious emollient, but it also provides persistent luxurious and cushiony
skin feel. Its low interfacial tension
shows that it has a relatively high polarity and is an excellent wetting and
dispersing agent for pigments.
